There are only six months left until the Continuing Education System (CES) deadline of June 30, 2024. CES Participants (Architects AIBC, Architectural Technologists AIBC, and Intern Architects AIBC) must earn and report 36 Learning Units (LUs), of which at least 16 LUs must be Core, including two Core LUs dedicated towards the new Indigenous Peoples Learning requirement.
In preparation for the upcoming deadline, here are a few helpful reminders to ensure a successful reporting period.
1) Review your CES transcript and check your progress.
CES Participants are encouraged to review their transcripts regularly to see how many LUs they have earned for the 2022-2024 reporting period. To access your CES transcript, log into your AIBC Registrant Portal. More detailed instructions can be found here: Registrant Portal Quick Guide – Review a CES Reporting Period Transcript. Note that your CES requirements may be different depending on when you registered with the AIBC. Checking your transcript will confirm your requirements, as well your CES deadline.
2) Understand and meet the new Indigenous Peoples Learning requirement.
Within the minimum 16 Core LUs, two Core LUs must be related to knowledge on Indigenous history, Truth and Reconciliation, and/or engagement (‘Indigenous Peoples Learning’). Many resources are available to assist CES Participants understand and meet this new requirement, including a Frequently Asked Questions PDF and Indigenous Peoples Learning Resources document. CES Participants can also find more information about this requirement in Schedule P: Board Rules for the Continuing Education System, found in the AIBC Bylaws. Please note that this requirement applies to all CES Participants, including those who choose to fulfill their requirements through the Canadian reciprocity option.
3) Report as you go.
Reporting throughout the cycle helps ensure a more accurate transcript. If you are self-reporting educational activities, it is highly recommended you login to submit your LUs as soon as the activity is finished. This eases the administrative task of inputting several entries at once, as well as reduces the chance of forgetting to report activities from previous months. All LUs must be earned and reported by the deadline.
4) Know your AIBC Registrant Number.
If you attend AIBC-Delivered or AIBC-Recognized activities, you will need your AIBC Registrant Number so that LUs can be reported to your CES Transcript on your behalf, upon activity completion. You can find your Registrant Number in your AIBC Registrant Portal (format is AIBC-R######). Architects can also continue to use their AIBC License number (L####) when reporting attendance.
