The Descriptive Material – Architects Regulation: Reserved Practice of Architecture (July 2024) has been updated, and is now available on the AIBC website.
As a reminder, the Architects Regulation was introduced on February 10, 2023, in line with AIBC being brought under the Professional Governance Act. The Architects Regulation defines the practice of architecture in the province and the profession’s “reserved practice”. Accompanying descriptive material, in the form of a guide, was published by the AIBC in September 2023 to help the public understand the Reserved Practice of architecture in British Columbia, including when an Architect is required on a project.
Overview of the Descriptive Material – Architects Regulation: Reserved Practice of Architecture
Recently updated, the descriptive material “Architects Regulation: Reserved Practice of Architecture” provides an overview of the Architects Regulation, including: Interaction Between the Architects Regulation and the BC Building Code; Alterations to Buildings; Temporary Structures; Architects and Professional Engineers, and a chart that compares the Architects Regulation and the BC Building Code.
Of note, the descriptive material is intended as a guide and does not take the place of the Architects Regulation itself, which prevails in all cases.
