2024 Induction Retirement Ceremony Recap

October 23, 2024

The 2024 AIBC Induction and Retirement Ceremony took place on October 2, 2024. The annual event recognizes new Architects AIBC and Architectural Technologists AIBC, as well as Retired Architects AIBC. Since the 2023 ceremony, nearly 250 individuals became registered with the AIBC, and almost 50 retired from the profession. 170 individuals were in attendance at the 2024 Ceremony, including inductees, retirees, and their guests.

The ceremony began with the procession of the inductees. The emcee for the evening was Mark Vernon, AIBC CEO and Registrar. Following his opening remarks, AIBC Board Chair Marguerite Laquinte Francis Architect AIBC addressed retirees and inductees, extending the Board’s best wishes and hearty congratulations. She also led the architect inductees through a recitation of the Architect’s Declaration.

As per tradition, a recently retired architect presented a Charge to inductees. This year, David Wilkinson Retired Architect AIBC led the address:

“Never shy away from reinvention or repositioning. There are so many different ways to be a successful architect. Be a leader wherever you land. Always honour your commitments to the public, to your clients, to your people, and to yourself.

We, the retiring architects, salute you.”

– Charge excerpt from David Wilkinson Retired Architect AIBC

Newly registered Architect AIBC Georgia Belliveau provided the Response:

“To the retiring architects: we stand on your shoulders. Your work has paved the way for us… and your influence will continue to guide us as we chart our own paths forward.

This is only the beginning – we have the opportunity to design the future, to push boundaries, and to contribute something meaningful to the world around us. Let’s embrace that responsibility with the same resilience and determination that brought us here.”

– Charge Response excerpt from Georgia Belliveau Architect AIBC
