AIBC PD Day 2025 took place virtually on Wednesday, May 14. More than 400 Architects, Architectural Technologists, Intern Architects, Retired Architects, and other professionals attended the online event from across the province and country.
The plenary presentation – “The Power of the Pen” presented by Narinder Sagoo MBE of Foster + Partners – kicked off the event by exploring the role of storytelling in architecture and how the pen is a powerful tool, not only for creativity and leadership, but also for making a positive impact. Feedback from attendees on the presentation included:
-
- “Inspiring us all to draw again and use it as a communication tool, and be inclusive of other disciplines for expressing ideas into built form.”
- “Very inspirational for practicing architects who may not have made the time to sketch much as of late. It’s a great reminder of the passion we require as designers/ architects/ artists.”
Following the plenary presentation, more than 10 sessions took place over three tracks. All of the sessions explored topics shaping and influencing the profession of architecture, including: artificial intelligence, building code, sustainability, inclusive architecture, and more.
A few post-event comments from AIBC PD Day 2025 attendees included:
-
- “The biggest takeaway for me [from PD Day 2025] was the calibre and diversity of the speakers, each one inspiring, knowledgeable, and engaged in meaningful work. The balance of creative, innovative, and technical perspectives was spot-on. I came away feeling truly motivated.
-
- “It’s very encouraging and impressive to see such passionate and competent younger generations coming through in our profession.”
- “Glad to see current community challenges reflected in the [PD Day] topics, encouraging Architects to play significant role in finding solutions: such as innovation in our practice around AI and prefabrication, housing; as well as more focus on Indigenous culture and engagement.”
Attendees are reminded not to self-report the event as Learning Units will be entered by the AIBC. We look forward to seeing you back in-person next year at AIBC Conference 2026, and virtually at PD Day 2027!
