The AIBC is currently seeking Registrants to volunteer and contribute as members of the Nomination Committee. This opportunity is ideal for Architects and Retired Architects with experience and an interest in professional governance, the AIBC’s regulatory mandate, and the role of the governing Board.
How It Works
Working independently of the AIBC Board, the mandate of the Nomination Committee is to fairly and objectively assess qualified candidates to be recommended for election to the Board. The Committee plays a vital role in ensuring that Board Members have the appropriate skills and competencies to fulfill their roles and responsibilities, while also supporting effective Board succession planning.
Nomination Committee members:
- Receive and review applications from Architects AIBC wishing to serve on the Board, and conduct interviews of eligible candidates;
- Determine which candidates meet the competencies set out in the Professional Governance General Regulations, and Board Policy; and
- Nominate such candidates to stand for election to the Board.
The Committee is not responsible for sourcing candidates.
Time Commitment
Although the volunteer term is three years, the Committee is only active in years when a Board election is due to be held, as set out in AIBC Bylaw 2.48.
In an election year, the election cycle runs January through May. During the cycle, the Committee meets virtually 2–3 times, as well as for up to two half days to conduct in-person candidate interviews at the AIBC office. The Committee is generally inactive the rest of the year, unless called upon by the Board.
