Registration is now open for the 2027 Certified Professional (CP) Program Course and the Advanced Code Knowledge (ACK) Course.
Both courses are based on the 2024 BC Building Code and the 2025 Vancouver Building By-law. They will be conducted online, with the CP exams and site visits taking place in-person. Registration for the courses closes on December 1, 2026, or when all spots are filled. Early registration is highly advised, as courses typically reach capacity well before the registration deadline.
While there are no formal prerequisites to register, these are advanced courses and having National Building Code, BC Building Code, or Vancouver Building By-law knowledge is recommended. Certified Professional Program Overview
The CP Program is an alternative to the conventional building permit and inspection process adopted by Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Maple Ridge, West Vancouver, University Endowment Lands, Nanaimo, Ladysmith, District of Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and Squamish Nation (Sen̓áḵw). Through the program, participating Authorities Having Jurisdiction can issue building permits on the assurances of a CP.
Although anyone may take the CP Program Course, only registered architects (Architects AIBC), professional engineers (P.Eng.) or professional licensee engineering (P.L.Eng.) with the appropriate authorized area of reserved practice registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC may practise as CPs. Intern Architects AIBC, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and other non-registered professionals who fulfill all CP Program Course requirements and successfully pass the CP exams will become eligible to practise as CPs upon registration as architects or engineers.
2027 Certified Professional Program Course Schedule
The CP Program Course schedule consists of 12 full-day sessions on Wednesdays from January 13 to April 21, 2027. There are no classes on March 10, 2027 (reading break) or March 31, 2027 (spring break). There is an optional half-day tutorial on April 7, 2027. The CP Program Course concludes with two full-day exams on April 28 and May 5, 2027. The site visits, mid-term and final exams will be conducted in-person in Greater Vancouver.

2027 Advanced Code Knowledge Course Schedule
The ACK Course is designed to provide advanced building code knowledge without CP certification. It includes all the building code content covered in the CP Course, but does not include the exams, projects, or site visits. The ACK Course comprises eight full-day sessions on Wednesdays from January 13 to March 3, 2027.
