At the May 10, 2016 council meeting (the last meeting of the 2015/2016 council), the following items were discussed:
President’s Report
• Outgoing council members John Etcher (2 years), Gordon Richards (12 years) and David Toole (5 years), and outgoing council liaisons Michael Currie (6 years) and Sara Kasaei (1 year; reappointed in 2016) were acknowledged for their tremendous contribution on council.
• One candidate was chosen as the recipient of the Michael A. Ernest AIBC Intern Architect Bursary, valued at $1,000.
Bylaw Review
• Investigations and Discipline: A presentation was given outlining the process, member feedback and next steps regarding the Investigations and Discipline bylaws initiative, which began in September 2015. Council approved the final proposed bylaw suite and directed the CEO to trigger an electronic vote.
• Professional Liability Insurance (PLI): Council approved the motion to add mandatory PLI for architectural firms (holders of Certificates of Practice) as a priority to the Bylaw Review Committee’s 2015-2018 work plan and to provide a plan for council review in the fall.
Other Business
• Council received a delegation applying to form a Vancouver chapter of the AIBC. The Governance Committee will prepare a report to council with a recommendation.
• Motions were passed for committee changes, examination results and register amendments as well as terms of reference.
