The AIBC’s proposed associate bylaw amendments put forward for electronic vote received strong approval from the institute’s voting members, with 95.6 per cent of voters in support. The requisite 2/3 support for the bylaws was achieved.
The associate bylaw amendments simplify the current bylaws into a suite of four bylaws, and move an existing bylaw, related to associates’ participation in chapters to the chapter portion of the bylaws. The thrust of the bylaw amendments is to require AIBC Council to establish qualifications for admission and appropriate designations for every associate class. Qualifications and designations will now be created by council rules. These rules, shared with members in draft form during the associate bylaw consultation period, are expected to proceed to the 30 day member notification soon.
With an overall participation rate of 21.7 per cent, voter turnout dipped somewhat from the stronger spring 2015 bylaw e-vote turnout of 27 per cent.
Under the Architects Act, notice of bylaw changes must be sent to the provincial government within seven days of passage. This filing took place on November 18, 2016. The government has 45 days to consider whether to disallow the bylaws. Confirmation to members of final bylaw status will follow.
Our thanks go out to all members and honorary members who participated in this important process.
