It is with much regret and sadness that the Architectural Institute of British Columbia acknowledges the passing of Juris Bergins Retired Architect AIBC on February 17, 2018 at the age of 79. He was one of the AIBC’s longest practicing members.
Born in Latvia, Juris came to Canada with his parents when he was young. He studied architecture at the University of Manitoba, and eventually opened his own practice in Vancouver, B.C.
Juris Bergins became a registered architect with the AIBC on May 1, 1966 and remained a member until his passing. He served as a member of AIBC Council in the 1970s, and was named a Life Member of the AIBC in 2008 in recognition of his 30 years of continuous membership.
In his Obituary, Juris is remembered as a “talented architect, designing and working on projects until the end.” He is survived by his two daughters, Kristine Bergins and Monika (Eric) Young and his two grandchildren, Torsten and Fenna.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1499 Laurier Street, Vancouver, B.C.
Memorials may be made in Juris’ name to the Order of St. John’s Palliative Care Foundation.
