We are pleased to announce that the 2018 Fall Professional Development (PD) Series is back, beginning on October 10, 2018. This monthly PD Series is presented in a convenient lunch and learn format, offering participants an informative and engaging way to earn Core Learning Units.
Building off of the success and feedback from last year, the focus of the 2018 Fall PD Series will be the design of high performance buildings using energy modelling. With the implementation of the BC Energy Step Code and B.C.’s overall commitment to sustainability, this topic is relevant to any architect practicing in British Columbia. It is projected that over 40 per cent of building permits for new buildings in 2019 will require compliance with the BC Energy Step Code, which means energy modelling will be required.
The 2018 Fall Professional Development Series schedule is as follows:
AIBC–EGBC Whole Building Energy Modelling Guidelines
On August 15, 2018, the joint Architectural Institute of British Columbia and Engineers and Geoscientists BC Professional Practice Guidelines – Whole Building Energy Modelling Services were published by the two organizations. They were developed with funding and support from BC Hydro, the City of Vancouver and BC Housing.
This session will introduce the key points of the new guidelines, as well as discuss its relationship to the City of Vancouver Energy Modelling Guideline V. 2.0.

Energy Modelling: Working with Consultants
This session will discuss key strategies for success when working with consulting energy modelers, using case studies of specific projects. Participants can expect to learn what to look for when selecting a consultant, what the RFP should look like, and other related topics. Speakers from both the procurement and energy modelling consultant sides will address the process of successful coordination to meet identified project goals.
