Interactive Sessions at AIBC Conference 2020 and Final Days for Early Bird Pricing

March 4, 2020

Planning on attending the 2020 AIBC Conference: Forming the Future? Early bird pricing is only available until Sunday, March 15! Don’t miss out on the best rate for this professional development event.

The conference has more than 20 sessions, including a range of interactive learning opportunities. Delegates can test their architectural knowledge at a Trivia Night, participate in a walking tour of Gastown, or even sit in on a drawing workshop – learn more about the conference’s unique offerings below:

Trivia Night

Designed exclusively for Conference 2020, the AIBC is offering an architecturally themed Trivia Night on Tuesday evening! Delegates of all professional backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Questions will range from British Columbia-focused to international facts, all focused on the profession of architecture. Hint: Don’t forget to review the AIBC 100 timeline for facts that may come in handy for this event! Delegates are encouraged to form teams (six is recommended), but individuals can also participate solo in the event. Prizes and snacks will be available!

Drawing Forward

Drawing Forward is an interactive workshop which looks at the power of architectural drawing, how it tells architectural stories, and the importance it has in creating ‘products’ like buildings, cities, and places for people. In this age of parametric design, participants will learn how hand drawings can streamline the process as a first step to successful design solutions. Participants will engage in a series of exercises that show how important drawing is to communicate and how it is one of our most valuable tools.

Happy Homes: Well-being Principles for Multi-Unit Housing

This workshop will explore well-being principles to help us design healthy, connected and resilient multi-unit housing. Happy City will share knowledge and evidence from the Happy Homes initiative and guide participants through a series of dynamic activities. Over the course of the session, participants will engage with a case study project to gain an understanding of how to promote well-being and sociability in multi-unit housing. A key part of the process will require participants to build empathy and explore a co-creation process with other workshop participants.

Walking Tour: Impact & Innovation in Gastown

Take a tour through Gastown and learn about six Henriquez Partners Architects projects in the community. These include: Gaslight Square, Lore Krill Housing, Gastown Parkade, Woodward’s Redevelopment, 60 West Cordova, and Blood Alley. Various architectural strategies that are unique to each project to re-vitalize neighbourhoods, combat homelessness, increase affordability, and support diversity will be discussed, along with the history of heritage requirements in Gastown and how they influenced the design of each project.
