On May 12, AIBC Council approved urgent amendments to Council Rules 1: Council Meetings Appendix to allow for electronic election of officers.
The amendments were put forth given the unprecedented circumstances caused by COVID-19. AIBC Council has an obligation to elect/appoint officers and Registrar at its first council meeting, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented council from following its current, physical and paper-based election/appointment process rules.
Council Policy 3.10.4 allows for creation or amendment of council rules without the usual notification period under such extenuating circumstances. Therefore, the following motions were approved by council:
- That council approves the amended Council Rules 1 Appendix: Council Officer Election.
- That the CEO be requested to notify architects and associates of these rule changes, and post on the AIBC website, in compliance with Council Policy 3.10.4.
