On November 19, 2020, the joint Architectural Institute of British Columbia and Engineers and Geoscientists BC Professional Practice Guidelines: British Columbia Building Code Letters of Assurance Requirements for Part 9 Buildings (PDF) were published by the two regulators.
These guidelines provide advice to Registered Professionals for situations where a building project is classified under Part 9 of Division B of the building code but contains some components which are not within the scope of Part 9. They identify how to use Letters of Assurance under these circumstances.
The guidelines were developed to address the frequent questions received from members of the public. These joint guidelines are complementary to the Guide to the Letters of Assurance, which focus on Part 3 buildings. An updated Guide to the Letters of Assurance in the BC Building Code is expected to be published in 2021.
The AIBC and EGBC would like to thank the Building and Safety Standards Branch for their review and input during the creation of these guidelines.
