On November 10, 2020, AIBC Council approved, in principle, Council Rules 4: Council Elections (PDF).
The proposed amendments are intended to: ensure consistency of the rules with election bylaws; provide for compliance to the rules under various circumstances (such as the COVID-19 pandemic); and, include requirements of the mail ballot results certificate.
As such, several revisions have been proposed for Council Rules 4: Council Elections, including:
- The registrar appointing the election scrutineers instead of the president appointing them (Rule 3.4).
- The certification and announcement of the results can be certified and announced outside of the actual annual meeting, with the election still closing on the day set for the annual meeting (Rule 3.6).
- The closing time of the election to be as per the Vote Notification (Rule 3.1).
- Inclusion of the contents required for the mail ballot certificate (Rule 3.5.2).
As per Council Policy 3.10, registrants are given notice regarding any proposed new or amended council rules. The notification period for Council Rules 4: Council Elections opens December 3, 2020 and will run until January 2, 2021.
During the notification period, registrants are invited to review the council rules and share their feedback or questions through the online feedback form:
All feedback (without identifying information) is provided to council prior to its consideration and vote on the rules. Council is expected to vote on these rules in January 2021. If approved, the rules will be posted online.
