Engineers and Geoscientists BC would like to share the following important message with AIBC registrants:
“Under the Professional Governance Act, Engineers and Geoscientists BC now regulates engineering firms. One of the new requirements is that, as of October 1, 2021, each Engineers and Geoscientists BC firm must apply their unique permit to practice number to all authenticated (sealed) documents. The implication for letters of assurance is that anytime an engineering professional of record authenticates one of the schedules, the permit to practice number of the firm under which that individual practices, must also be applied to the schedule. The permit to practice number must appear once per schedule. The requirement is not retroactive for any letters of assurance submitted prior to October 1, 2021. Authenticated documents lacking a permit to practice number do not meet the requirements of Engineers and Geoscientists BC Bylaw 7.3.7(14).
For more information on permit to practice requirements contact an Engineers and Geoscientists BC practice advisor at practiceadvisor@egbc.ca.”
It is good practice for architects coordinating engineers to request compliance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s regulatory requirements, and therefore the AIBC recommends architects reject a Letter of Assurance lacking a permit to practice number.
Please note that the AIBC Certificate of Practice procedures remain unchanged.
