Mark your calendars: the AIBC is hosting the annual Post-Disaster Building Assessment (PDBA) Training Workshop online on February 24 and March 3, 2022!
Registration will open in the coming weeks – registrants will be notified via the website and Notice, as well as through the AIBC Events Calendar. To receive a direct email when registration is available, contact professionaldevelopment@aibc.ca.
AIBC registrants, architectural students and others with building construction expertise who are interested in participating in Post-Disaster Building Assessment are required to take training that aligns with the provincial and international protocols and standards. Once trained, individuals can register as a Building Emergency Assessor with BC Housing.
PDBA Training Workshop Overview
Taking place over two half-days, the workshop will include an introduction to earthquake hazards, with an overview of different levels of response and ways building design professionals can help. A regional context of the Lower Mainland will be applied when discussing building types and common forms of construction in B.C., as well as an overview of the ATC-20 field guide.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from field experts about their experiences and learn about relevant case studies. Representatives from BC Housing and City of Vancouver will also provide updates regarding preparedness initiatives and anticipated response strategies.
A series of exercises will be part of the training to help participants apply some of the concepts to case studies and prepare for their role as a PDBA assessor. Be prepared to engage in online break-out groups for these interactive exercises!
This session will be presented by members of Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd: Dennis Gam, M.Eng. P.Eng. Principal, Adam Lubell, PhD, P.Eng.
