The Illegal Practice Notice highlights summaries of illegal practice resolutions involving individuals or companies not registered with the AIBC.
Through the authority granted under the Architects Act, the AIBC investigates and takes appropriate steps when non-architects illegally offer or provide architectural services or represent themselves as architects or other AIBC registrants.
AIBC Illegal Practice Resolutions
Over the past months, the AIBC has secured a number of resolutions related to the illegal practice of architecture and misrepresentation (e.g., misuse of “architect” and “architecture”). The AIBC has also obtained Undertaking and Covenant Agreements from:
Mr. Victor Proctor of Blue Mountain Engineering Inc.
Mr. Proctor, who is not an architect, and does not have a certificate of practice, signed and sealed architectural components of Schedules for a building which, based on its size and classification, required the services of an architect under the Architects Act. Through the Undertaking and Covenant Agreement, Mr. Proctor has acknowledged his breach of the Architects Act and committed to compliance in the future.
Mr. Michael Schell of Premium Urban Design
Mr. Schell, who is not an architect, provided design services and prepared drawings for a building which, based on its size and classification, required the services of an architect under the Architects Act. Mr. Schell was also misrepresenting his company’s services on the company website and other third-party websites. Through the Undertaking and Covenant Agreement, Mr. Schell has acknowledged his breach of the Architects Act and committed to compliance in the future.
Mr. Safaa Alhamadani
Mr. Alhamadani, who is not an architect, provided design services for a commercial building which, based on its size, required the services of an architect under the Architects Act. Through the Undertaking and Covenant Agreement, Mr. Alhamadani has acknowledged his breach of the Architects Act and committed to compliance in the future.
