The 2022 Oral Review dates for Spring and Summer are now available for Intern Architects AIBC and Broadly Experienced Applicant (BEA) candidates. The AIBC will continue to deliver the Oral Reviews via Zoom, given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Later in the year, the Oral Reviews may also be delivered in-person, if safe to do so. The Fall 2022 Oral Review dates and registration information will be shared in the coming months.
Those interested in taking the Oral Review are required to submit an application form between the specified registration period for each round. Following the application close date, AIBC staff will contact you to confirm your eligibility and assigned Oral Review date/time.
Spring Oral Review Dates: March 28 – April 29 (Virtual)
Application Open Date: Monday, January 17
Application Close Date: Friday, February 4 (at 4 p.m.)
Summer Oral Review Dates: June 20 – July 15 (Modality TBD)
Application Open Date: Monday, April 25
Application Close Date: Friday, May 13 (at 4 p.m.)
Oral Review Preparation Workshops
The AIBC offers a free Oral Review Preparation Workshop before each round of Oral Reviews. Attendance is highly recommended for all Intern Architects AIBC and BEA candidates. Supervising Architects and Mentors of intern architects are also welcome. Candidates will be emailed directly with additional information and registration details.
New Oral Review Process Coming in Late 2022
As previously announced, the AIBC has been working on an Oral Review Update project to explore the feasibility of administering the Oral Review online and in-person, as well as examining how to strengthen the principles of fairness, validity, and reliability, in both delivery methods. The AIBC is in its final phase of the project, with a scheduled completion date of spring 2022. The result of the project will be a new and improved Oral Review process, which will be introduced in late 2022. It is important to note that the premise and purpose of the Oral Review remains the same: an oral exam to assess an individual’s ability to synthesize their knowledge, experience, and professional judgment into competent architectural practice in British Columbia. While the questions have been updated, they still cover similar subject areas as the current Oral Review.
Please note that Intern Architects AIBC and BEAs who are currently going through the Oral Review Process will not be impacted by this change. It is anticipated that the first cohort under the new Oral Review process will be those who partake in the Fall 2022 Oral Review.
