Developing the plan was a multi-stage process that consisted of an environmental scan, calls for Registrant feedback, and facilitated sessions with external community members. All of the steps were critical to informing the discussions amongst the AIBC Board and staff, as well as the editing, iterating, and refining processes. The full background on the creation of the plan is available on the AIBC website.
2024–2028 AIBC Strategic Plan Overview
Regulation in the public interest continues to be the core focus and element of the 2024–2028 Strategic Plan. This is in alignment with the Professional Governance Act, which enshrines the AIBC’s fundamental legal duty: to serve and protect the public interest with respect to the exercise of this profession, professional governance, and the conduct of Registrants.
The plan includes a revised and refreshed mandate, vision, values, and goals. All of the changes from the previous five year plan were outlined in the September 14 Board’s Chair Message. Registrants are encouraged to review the entire plan, which includes a chart of strategies.
Below is an overview of the revised mandate, vision, values, and goals:
Mandate
“In the interest of serving and protecting the public, the Architectural Institute of British Columbia regulates the profession of architecture through a responsive regulatory framework.”
Vision
“Public confidence in the profession of architecture through progressive regulation.”
Values
- Inclusive: Providing equal opportunity and supportive of diversity
- Proactive: Providing collaborative and innovative leadership
- Open: Supporting responsibility, accountability, and transparency
- Ethical: Behaving with integrity and professionalism
Goals
Goal 1 | Public Interest
Maintain alignment of the profession of architecture with the public interest through responsive regulation.
Goal 2 | Registrant Proficiency
Enable and require registrant proficiency and professionalism.
Goal 3 | Institutional Performance
Demonstrate resilient and responsive practices in governance and operations.
Thank you to all Registrants and community members who participated in the creation of the 2024–2028 AIBC Strategic Plan. The AIBC looks forward to the next five years, with a clear direction in continuing to further our public-interest mandate.
