April 3, 2024

The AIBC’s 2024 BC Building Code Update Course took place virtually on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. The AIBC was delighted to have almost 400 individuals attend the event.

The course provided attendees with an overview of the changes to Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the 2024 BC Building Code. The Course was moderated by AIBC CP Manager, Anja Slusarzick-Seibt Architect AIBC CP. Speakers included:

  • Maura Gatensby Architect AIBC CP (Parts 1 and 2)
  • Allison Chen P.Eng. (Subsection 2.2.7.)
  • Jack Hui P.Eng. CP (Section 3.1.)
  • Alan Brown Architect AIBC CP (Section 3.2.)
  • Barry Thorson P.Eng. CP (Sections 3.3. and 3.9.)
  • Kai Mikkelsen P.Eng. CP (Section 3.4.)
  • Ron Bijok Architect AIBC CP (Sections 3.7. and 3.8.)

After the presentations, the course concluded with an engaging question and answer session. Some notable feedback from participants included:

  • “Code changes and underlying reasons (where possible or applicable) were presented clearly.”
  • “Course was a really helpful overview of the changes.”
  • “…the passion for the subject matter exuded by the presenters kept me focused, engaged, and on occasion entertained. Well worth the time investment.”

The BC Building Code Update Course was recorded and will be adapted into an online on-demand course. It is anticipated this version will be available in the coming months through the AIBC’s Online Course Portal, and will remain available throughout this code cycle.
