AIBC Register Update

July 31, 2024

The AIBC Register (“Register”) is an online directory listing all AIBC-registered Architects, Architectural Technologists, Intern Architects, Retired Architects, and Firm Registrants. The AIBC re-launched the online Register in April 2023, featuring a new layout and display. Over the past several months, the AIBC has continued working on the Register to meet Professional Governance Act requirements, and to implement general improvements.

Over the coming weeks and months, registrants will see additional information and functionality added to the AIBC Register, which has been summarized below.

Discipline Record Available on AIBC Register – Coming Soon

In accordance with the requirements of the Professional Governance Act and the AIBC Bylaws, and in keeping with principles of enhanced transparency and public safety, admissions and determinations that a registrant has committed a discipline violation or professional misconduct, conduct unbecoming a registrant, incompetent performance of duties, or a breach of the PGA, its regulations, or the AIBC Bylaws, will be published on the online Register. The discipline record will remain on the Register for the duration of the registrant’s registration with the AIBC, and for no less than 10 years after the registrant ceases to be registered.

This means along with the general information already available, the online Register will display an explanatory notation and/or a link to a registrant’s discipline record, including notice of any cancellation or suspension related to the discipline record.

In addition, any limitations or conditions on a registrant’s regulated practice or registration will also be shown on the AIBC Register. As a reminder, limitations and conditions are regarding the ongoing ability of registrants to carry out their professional obligations, where the AIBC is aware of concerns in relation to that ability. They are not intended to limit a registrant’s scope of practice, where such registrant is entitled to practise the profession of architecture.

Upcoming Changes and Features

Additional regulatory information will be made available on the AIBC Register in the coming months, such as a registrant’s registration history. This will include a registrant’s former registration category, date of registration in the former category, and an explanatory notation of the reason for cancellation of registration in the former category.

The AIBC is also improving the search functionality of the online Register, making it easier to find and search for AIBC registrants. The display will be enhanced to include more regulatory fields and have a more intuitive layout.

If you have any questions about the AIBC Register or the upcoming changes, please email registration@aibc.ca.
