A new online course is now available on-demand in the AIBC Course Portal: the 2024 BC Building Code Update Course.
This on-demand version of the course was adapted from the live offering, which took place on March 26, 2024. The online 2024 BC Building Code Update Course takes approximately 6.5 hours to complete and is eligible for continuing education credit.
2024 BC Building Code Update Course Overview
The 2024 BC Building Code Update Course focuses on updates to Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the BC Building Code. The 2024 BCBC includes most of the 2020 National Building code updates, but there are some British Columbia-specific Code changes.

Accessing the Course, Subsidized Pricing Available
Registrants can access the 2024 BC Building Code Update course through the AIBC’s Online Course Portal, under the “Other PD Courses” tab in the top menu bar. Please note that you will be required to create an account if this is the first time you are registering for an online course.
Subsidized pricing is available for Intern Architects AIBC and Engineers-in-Training. To receive the pricing code, please email professionaldevelopment@aibc.ca prior to registering.
Please also be advised that the 2024 BC Building Code Update Course is not a substitute or replacement of the mandatory Internship in Architecture Program BC Building Code course.
Update: AIBC Online Courses
The next online course that will be available in the AIBC’s Course Portal is “BC Building Code 2024 – Adaptable Dwelling Units”. Presented in partnership with Building Safety Standards Branch, this course will review the upcoming changes to Subsection 3.8.5. of the BC Building Code 2024, that are being implemented March 10, 2025, requiring ‘adaptable dwelling units’ in new housing.
