On-Demand Version of the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course Now Available

May 20, 2025

The AIBC is delighted to announce the release of another online course, available on-demand in the AIBC Course Portal: the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course. The course provides an overview of baseline responsibility and requirements of holding a Certificate of Practice and operating an architectural Firm in British Columbia.

The on-demand version of the Mandatory Firm Registrants Couse was adapted from the live course offering delivered on November 13, 2024. It takes approximately 3 hours to complete and covers important Firm Registrant topics, including:

  • Registration requirements
  • Compliance with laws
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Contracts and engagement
  • Use of the Architect Seal and services
  • Relationships between employer Firm and employees in a regulated context

Who is Required to Take the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course?

All new Certificate of Practice applicants (through Registrants who are sole proprietors, partners, and directors and/or shareholders of voting shares in a corporation) must complete the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course before being issued their Certificate of Practice. In addition, any Registrants who join an existing Firm as a partner, owner, or director will have a 90-day time period after submission of the ‘Firm Change’ form to complete the course.

While the mandatory Firm Course completion is currently limited to new Registrant Firm owners, the AIBC invites all Registrants to complete this course.

More information about the Mandatory Firm Registrants Course requirements can be found in Schedule T: Board Rules for Firm Continuing Education in the AIBC Bylaws.

How To Access the Course

The Mandatory Firm Registrants Course is available through the Online Course Portal. Please note that you will be required to create an account if this is the first time you are registering for an online course.

To learn more about AIBC’s online courses, including course access, cancellation and registration policies, please visit the AIBC Courses webpage.
