AIBC Conference 2026 Call for Submissions

September 3, 2025

The AIBC invites submissions from those interested in speaking, participating in panel discussions, or facilitating workshops at AIBC Conference 2026. The event will be taking place in-person from May 25 to May 27 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. The AIBC Conference attracts 500+ attendees, with architectural professionals from across B.C. and beyond coming together to attend more than 20 professional development sessions, as well as engaging evening events.

The deadline to submit a proposal is October 27, 2025.

AIBC Conference 2026: People / Place / Possibility

The theme for AIBC Conference 2026 is People / Place / Possibility. Learn more about the theme below:  Architecture is shaped by the interplay of people, place, and possibility.

These three pillars offer a powerful lens for thinking critically and reflecting on architectural practice in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and technology-driven world. What does it mean to design with a sense of responsibility to both community and context? How does architecture stay open to possibility while remaining grounded in real needs, requirements, and realities?

AIBC Conference 2026 will explore the theme People / Place / Possibility – examining how architectural practice is influenced by the people and communities we serve, the places and environments we inhabit, and the futures we strive to create. We invite you to bring your own voice to the conference, engage with new ideas, and discover where you can be both challenged and inspired.

Submission Criteria

A variety of presentation formats are sought, including lectures, panel discussions and workshops. Sessions will be 60 minutes in length: 45 minutes of presentation time, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. The AIBC is looking for presenters who are experts in their fields and are familiar with presenting to groups of 30 to 120.

The following criteria will be examined when reviewing and selecting submissions:

  • Inspired content that is clear, concise and educational in nature;
  • Relevance to the profession of architecture;
  • Compliant with the necessary standards for AIBC’s Continuing Education System; and
  • Qualified speakers with experience presenting at similar regional, national, or international conferences.

Conference 2026 Program

The Conference Professional Development Advisory Group is specifically interested in presentations related to the following topics:

  • The future of the profession: innovative approaches to practice, artificial intelligence, and emerging trends and technologies shaping the field
  • The business of architecture: project management, integrated design process, evolving practice models, and related topics
  • Innovative and sustainable technologies: mass timber, Step Code, Passive House, prefabrication, embodied carbon, building code revisions and updates
  • Learnings from Indigenous culture and design: working with Indigenous communities and incorporating Indigenous knowledge in architectural practice
  • Urban planning policy and design: strategies for designing for affordability and/or temporary housing, adaptive re-use, and heritage buildings
  • Building community and social advocacy through architecture: cross-cultural influences, equity, diversity, and inclusivity in the profession
  • Architectural Case Studies: showcasing projects that embody the above topics
  • Unique experiences: architectural tours, workshops, and other immersive opportunities aligned with these themes.
