Thank you to everyone who attended AIBC Conference 2026 from May 25–27 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West!
The event brought together more than 450 Architects, Architectural Technologists, Intern Architects, Retired Architects, and other professionals from across British Columbia and beyond. This year’s theme, “People / Place / Possibility”, invited attendees to reflect on how architectural practice is shaped by the people and communities we serve, the places and environments we inhabit, and the futures we strive to create.
Following the format introduced in 2024, the Conference began on Monday with four online-only sessions, including presentations from Frans de Witte of MVRDV and the AIBC’s Investigation Committee. That evening, attendees gathered for the start of in-person programming, with the opening reception and keynote presentation ‘Adapting in Context’, delivered by Michelle Delk FASLA of Snøhetta.
Over the following two days, more than 25 breakout sessions took place over three streams. Highlights included the plenary presentation ‘Architecture for Housing the 99%’ by Johanna Hurme from 5468796 Architecture Inc., and ‘Architecture Through the Lens of Two Row Thinking’ by Matthew Hickey from Two Row Architect. On Tuesday evening, Movie Night featured a screening of Building on the Edge, including a special video message from Brandon Neahusan, a member of the design team featured in the film. Bringing the conference to a close, Alex Josephson of PARTISANS delivered his keynote presentation ‘(RPM): Resistance, Play, Misbehaviour’.
The AIBC was delighted to have two student exhibits on display during the conference, showcasing projects from BCIT’s Bachelor of Architectural Science Program, and UBC SALA’s Master of Architecture Comprehensive Studio, in the networking and exhibitor area.
