February 4 Update: The 2021 PDBA Workshop is now sold out.
This year, the AIBC is hosting the annual Post-Disaster Building Assessment (PDBA) Training Workshop online on February 25 and March 4, 2021. AIBC registrants, architectural students and others with building construction expertise who are interested in participating in Post-Disaster Building Assessment are required to take training that aligns with the provincial and international protocols and standards.
Taking place over two half-days, the workshop will include an introduction to earthquake hazards, with an overview of different levels of response and ways building design professionals can help. A regional context of the Lower Mainland will be applied when discussing building types and common forms of construction in British Columbia. An overview of the ATC 20 field guide will be provided.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from field experts about their experiences and learn about relevant case studies. Representatives from BC Housing and City of Vancouver will provide updates regarding preparedness initiatives and anticipated response strategies.
New this year, a series of exercises will be part of the training to help participants apply some of the concepts to case studies and prepare for their role as a PDBA assessor. Be prepared to engage in online break-out groups for these interactive exercises!
Attendees who have previously completed the PDBA workshop will already have the field guide, and as such, are eligible to register at a discounted rate. If the field guide has been lost or damaged, please select the regular rate to purchase the material again. AIBC staff will coordinate mailing the field guide to each participant who requires it.
