Further Updates to AIBC Practice Guidelines

September 2, 2026

As previously shared, the AIBC is undertaking a phased review and update of its Practice Guidelines to align them with the current AIBC Bylaws, Professional Governance Act, and Architects Regulation.

Practice Guidelines that have been revised:

  • Practice Guideline: Document 8C – 2021 Standard Short Form Contract Between Client and Consultant
    • Revised to reflect the newly updated AIBC 8C–2026 Standard Short Form Agreement Between Client and Consultant. Read more about the new edition of AIBC 8C–2026.
  • Practice Guideline: Blended Hourly Rate Fees for Principals in Small Practices
    • Revised rates and updated references to Bylaws.
  • Practice Guideline: Hourly Rate Fees – Services of Principals or Staff
    • Revised rates and updated references to Bylaws.
  • Practice Guideline: Percentage Fees: Phased Earnings
    • Minor amendments.
  • Practice Guideline: Pre-Contract Activities
    • Newly published Practice Guideline, which is based on information previously found in Bulletin 90: Minimum Scope of Architectural Services.
  • Practice Guideline: Letters of Assurance for Phased (or Partial) Occupancies
    • Minor amendments; added references to Letters of Assurance sources of information.
  • Practice Guideline: “Qualified” Letters of Assurance
    • Minor amendments.

As noted, most of the amendments are administrative in nature and are intended to improve consistency across AIBC practice resources. Updates include revised terminology, references to current Bylaws and Professional Standards, and editorial changes to improve readability and formatting consistency.

The AIBC will be publishing new Practice Guidelines in the coming weeks, including one on PST.
