Practice Guideline: Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on Architectural Services Now Available

September 17, 2026

UPDATE: On September 18, 2026, the Government of British Columbia announced that the PST expansion to professional services has been paused. Read the full update on BC Gov News.

The AIBC has published a new Practice Guideline: Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on Architectural Services, which is now available on the AIBC website. This Guideline was developed in consultation with the provincial government.

Practice Guideline: Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on Architectural Services covers transition considerations, lump sum fees, disbursements, exemptions related to the practice of architecture, and also includes a list of resources. As more information becomes available, the AIBC will update the Practice Guideline.

As a reminder, the introduction of PST on architectural services, as well as the related requirements and exemptions, are established by the Government of British Columbia and are not AIBC requirements or policies. The purpose of the AIBC’s new Practice Guideline is to provide additional clarification to Registrants regarding PST on architectural services, which is required as of October 1, 2026.

The AIBC has also published additional information and updated resources in preparation for the PST introduction on October 1. Registrants are encouraged to review the following:
