President’s Message | Nominations Review Committee

As a self-regulating body that takes its regulator role seriously, it would be tempting to suppose that the role and responsibilities of council are well understood. “What exactly does council do?” and, “What is the function of council as compared to staff?” are two often asked questions. Before I delve in, it bears repeating that the AIBC, vested with the legislative power of the Architects Act, regulates the profession of architecture on behalf of the public.  Read more

Professional Liability Insurance Bylaws: An Update

2017 Annual Firm Information Update

The Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) issues an annual reminder to keep firm information current and help maintain the integrity of the AIBC register. This information is also used to issue annual fee invoices. Additionally, an online directory of architectural firms is available to the public.  Read more

2017 International Young Architect Workshop: A Look Back

In November 2016, a call went out to AIBC members to participate in the 2017 International Young Architect Workshop, a six day event which took place in Shenzhen China from January 14–19. Hosted by the Architectural Society of China (ASC), the purpose of the workshop was to strengthen exchanges and cooperation amongst young architects.  Read more

Members Approve Professional Liability Insurance Bylaws

The AIBC’s proposed Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) Bylaws put forward for electronic vote received overwhelming approval from the institute’s voting members, with 80.2 per cent of voters in support. The requisite 2/3 support for the bylaws was achieved.  Read more

PLI Bylaw E-Vote – One Week Left!

Only one week left for the Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) Bylaws electronic vote! The vote commenced on June 13 and will end on July 13 at 4 p.m. (PDT). As of July 4, we have 27% elector turnout with 558 eligible members and honorary members having voted.  Read more
