President’s Message – Announcing the New 2019–2023 AIBC Strategic Plan

On behalf of AIBC Council and staff, it is my pleasure to share the Architectural Institute of British Columbia’s 2019–2023 Strategic Plan. Beginning in late 2017, the plan took more than a year to create. It was a multi-stage process that consisted of an environmental scan, calls for registrant and stakeholder feedback, facilitated sessions, discussions amongst AIBC Council and staff, as well as thorough editing, iterating and refining.  Read more

Notification Period | Council Rules 5, Council Rules 6, and Council Rules 9

January 30, 2019

On January 14, 2019, AIBC Council approved, in principle, revised Council Rules 5: Continuing Education System (CES) and revised Council Rules 6: Designation and Admission Qualifications for AIBC Associates, as well as proposed Council Rules 9: Formation and Administration of Chapters.  Read more

Participate in the Continuing Education System Survey by March 1, 2019

Thank you for a successful 2016–2018 Continuing Education System (CES) reporting period! The Professional Services department is launching a new initiative to conduct an annual CES Survey. This initiative is a part of the ongoing work to ensure that the professional development opportunities offered at and through the AIBC continue to increase the competency, acumen, and resiliency of our registrants.  Read more

2019 Oral Review Dates Announced

January 9, 2019

The 2019 Oral Review schedule is now available for Intern Architects AIBC and Broadly Experienced Applicant (BEA) candidates. Those interested in taking the Oral Review are required to submit an application form between the specified registration period for each round. Following the application close date, AIBC staff will contact you to confirm your eligibility and assigned Oral Review date.  Read more

Annual Renewal of Registration Deadline is February 1, 2019

January 8, 2019

Annual Renewal invoices were emailed to registrants on November 21, 2018, with a payment deadline of February 1, 2019. Thank you to all of the architects, associates, temporary licensees, and firms who have already paid their fees. To date, over 35 percent of registrants have submitted their payments.  Read more

Council and Institute Governance Bylaws Approved

January 8, 2019

The proposed suite of Council and Institute Governance Bylaws put forward for electronic vote have received the requisite 2/3 support from eligible voters. The bylaw vote was organized into six categories: Seal of the Institute; Officers and Council; Boards, Task Forces and Committees; Remuneration and Expenses; Nominations; and Elections.  Read more

Bulletin 32: Right to Title: The Legal Use of “Architect” and Derivatives Update

December 20, 2018

Bulletin 32 has been updated. Revisions include the addition of section 2.3 for added clarity for architects registered in other jurisdictions; addition of section 3.0 which provides information regarding limitations on offers of service including descriptive terms of services; addition of section 5.0 which outlines penalties and enforcement of the Architects Act, as well as improved syntax, organization and format.  Read more

Post-Disaster Building Assessment Training Workshop

December 19, 2018

The AIBC Post Disaster Response Committee is working in collaboration with BC Housing and Engineers & Geoscientists of BC, to establish a roster of trained volunteers who are available to be deployed in the event of a disaster. This January, the AIBC be offering a full day training session for members interested in being volunteers in this program. Architects, intern architects, architectural technologists and other interested individuals are invited to attend.  Read more
