Regulatory Review | Don’t Let Your Seal Enable Illegal Practice
Recently, the AIBC has received increased correspondence regarding attempts to circumvent the requirements of the Architects Act, whereby designers or unregistered persons attempt to legitimize their illegal practice of architecture by requesting architects to seal their work. This Regulatory Review will provide an actual example of this type of request and illustrate the appropriate response and course of action to take if approached with a similar proposal. Read more

Notification Period | Council Rules 4: Council Elections
On November 5, 2019, AIBC Council approved, in principle, Council Rules 4: Council Elections. As part of the Council and Institute Governance Bylaw initiative, several bylaws were amalgamated into a single bylaw – Bylaw 22.0: Election Procedures (PDF). The amended Bylaw 22.0 authorizes the detailed mail ballot and dispute resolution processes to be outlined in Council Rules rather than in bylaws. As such, several revisions have been proposed for Council Rules 4: Council Elections. Read more

New, Earlier Opening Date for the 2020/21 AIBC Council Call for Nominations
The Call for Nominations as part of the 2020 Council Election will open on December 10, 2019. Registrants will notice the call is opening earlier than previous years. This was introduced to provide members with ample time to consider submitting a nomination to serve on the 2020/21 AIBC Council. In addition, beginning the Call for Nominations earlier supports the work of the Council Recruitment Task Force. Read more
